What is Home Education? 

Home education means you take full responsibility for your child’s learning. It gives families flexibility to choose how and what their children learn. 

If your child has never been to school, there's no need to inform anyone of your choice to HE, it is the default in the UK! If you would like to remove your child from a mainstream school on the Island to start home educating you need to inform the school in writing, this is your choice and legal right. The school are then obliged to inform the EHE team at the Isle of Wight Council, who will check in with you periodically.   

“Home Schooling” is a term often used, but in the UK the official, legal term is “Elective Home Education” 

What does it look like?  

Whatever suits you and your child! Education should be suitable for the age, ability, and aptitude of your child.
