Membership
Learning Zone memberships renew each year on 1st July. Don’t worry—we’ll send you a reminder when it’s time to renew, you won’t need to complete the form again unless your details have changed.
The standard membership fee is £20 per family, per year.
If you’re able to contribute more, we welcome donations of an additional £10 or £20 to help support our work. There are no checks or questions—just give what you can.
Your membership fee helps the Learning Zone stay flexible, active, and supportive. Here’s how we use it:
Match-funding for grants – Some grant providers require us to contribute funds before they will. Your membership helps us qualify for these opportunities.
Upfront payments for events – Activities like swimming sessions, climbing, or venue bookings often need to be paid for in advance. We use membership funds to secure these while participants sign up and pay.
Shared equipment – We’ve invested in useful resources—such as sports day gear, a marquee, and camping equipment—which are available for member use.
Making activities affordable – When a great opportunity comes up that’s just too costly, we can use LZ funds to help reduce the price for members.
While the Isle of Wight Learning Zone exists to support all home educators, becoming a member comes with additional benefits:
Access to our private Facebook group – Stay connected with other members, ask questions, and share resources in a supportive, members-only space.
Support for your activities – Members can apply for their events or projects to be officially supported (‘adopted’) by the Learning Zone. This can include funding, insurance, and planning advice.
Early access to activities – All LZ adopted activities are shared first with members, giving you early booking opportunities (important if spaces are limited!)
Discounted activity costs – Where possible, members receive reduced rates for LZ events and workshops.
Be part of the home education community – Membership shows you’re actively involved in supporting and shaping home education on the Island.
Have your say – As a member of the charity, you can attend and vote at our Annual General Meeting (AGM), helping to guide the future of the Learning Zone.
There is more information about the charity in the membership information pack.
